OCC member default fund contributions up $1bn in Q3

Peak initial margin call was $9.9 billion in Q3

In a wild third quarter for equity derivatives, the Options Clearing Corporation (OCC) asked participants to pour an additional $1.2 billion into its default fund.

Aggregate required member contributions to the fund totalled $10.8 billion in the third quarter of 2019, up 13% on Q2, and at their highest level since Q2 2018.

The maximum combined initial margin call on the peak day in Q3 was $9.9 billion, 77% higher than in the previous quarter. Required initial margin held at the OCC at end
