US banks of all sizes have reduced the share of securities holdings designated as held-to-maturity (HTM) since end-2016, Risk Quantum analysis shows.
At the 125 bank holding companies (BHCs) of more than $10 billion in size, HTM securities made up 15% of investment assets in Q2 2019, down from 15.7% the year-ago quarter and 18.1% at end-2016.
The 146 BHCs with $3 billion–10 billion in assets labelled 8.6% of their portfolios as HTM, down from 12% a year prior and 13.9% at end-2016.
