A list of the year’s biggest op risk losses to date would show a dozen or so of the world’s largest banks falling foul of their regulators, racking up hefty bills in the process. Regional and domestic banks aren’t exactly absent – Swedbank was fined the equivalent of $80 million by its domestic regulator in March – but they are far less prominent.
