Banks will not be frowned upon for discount window borrowing – Fed official

A senior Federal Reserve official has insisted there will be “no frowning” on banks that use the discount window to meet their liquidity needs.  

Banks have long resisted using the Fed’s lender of last resort facility for fear that it will be perceived by supervisors as a sign of weakness.

Lisa White, executive vice-president for supervision, regulation and credit at the Richmond Fed, said those concerns were anchored in the past and are no longer valid.
