Energy Risk Central & Eastern Europe conference
The setting for Energy Risk’s second CEE conference was Poland’s financial capital – Warsaw. The phoenix city, as it is known, was an apt setting for discussion of the growth of the power markets in the region, which are steadily increasing in liquidity and sophistication and are catching up with the rest of Europe. Katie Holliday reports
The mood had shifted substantially in comparison to 2009's Prague-based conference, when participants were sceptical as to whether the central and eastern European (CEE) regions would be able to make progress. Over the past year, liquidity levels – particularly for the over-the-counter (OTC) markets – have been growing healthily, increasing by roughly 20% over the past 12 months. End-user demand for hedging has also been mounting steadily and power is now being priced out up to three years ahead
