Café Gray is an odd restaurant. Its name implies casualness, yet it’s swathed in opulence, from its mirrored columns, stemware displays and orchid arrangements, down to its silver-engraved dining room chairs. It overlooks Central Park, yet there aren’t any tables that have an unobstructed view. Instead, the huge, sleek and open kitchen, which comes close to matching the dining room in size, is peculiarly situated between the tables and the expansive windows.
