Prebon Yamane's Singapore chairman to retire

John Ng, chairman of brokerage house Prebon Yamane (Singapore), is to retire from the firm following 29 years with the company.

Ng started working for Prebon – then named Charles Fulton – in 1974. He spent the majority of his career in foreign exchange where he was a director in the division, prior to being named deputy managing director in 1994.

As one of the founders of Prebon in Asia, Ng was also instrumental in much of the early work in evaluating business opportunities for the company in emerging markets such as Thailand, Vietnam, India and Prebon’s joint venture in Kuala Lumpur - Fulton Prebon (Malaysia) – where he has been a director for the past nine years.

Ng has been a member of the Prebon Yamane Asia-Pacific executive committee for the last 15 years, while also serving on the board of Prebon Yamane (Singapore), more recently as chairman of the board. He was also a director of Prebon Energy (Singapore).

In addition to his career at the brokerage house, Ng has been active in the Singapore finance market, serving on various sub-committees as a member of the Singapore Foreign Exchange Market Committee (SFEMC).

A spokesperson for the firm said a decision to replace Ng had yet to be reached.
