ETF Securities debuts commodity funds on Tokyo Stock Exchange

ETF Securities has launched a new platform in Japan for physically backed precious metal commodities exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Five funds began trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on August 24.

The ETFs now available include physical gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and an ETF linking to a basket of these four physically backed precious metals. With the exception of gold, which is already accessible in the SPDR Gold Shares fund, the products are thefirst of their kind to be listed on the exchange.

"We'll be following up quickly and expect to have 40 or 50 products there in a few months' time, which will make us the largest issuer of product," says Hector McNeil, London-based global
