Life is about to change in the UK financial world. Eager structured products bankers have peered into their future, read the Retail Distribution Review (RDR) - another massive tome from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) - and are dithering over what to do next.

The tinkering that has so far resulted in copious meetings and the racking up of many hours of legal advice has culminated in the acknowledgement that when the FSA says it would like to rid the UK of tied commission, it really means
