Equity and credit research: don’t force a wedding

Until recently, equity and credit research analysts went their separate ways. Equity analysts focused on the P&L, and credit analysts on the balance sheet. The teams were located in different offices, earned very different remuneration packages and didn’t really communicate.

But in the past two years credit research has gained kudos, and analysts are being encouraged to co-operate. These days most asset management firms proudly boast about the interaction of their equity and credit research
