Cash holdings grow

At the turn of the century, many US companies showed a substantial increase in their willingness to take on large amounts of debt on their balance sheets. But much to the satisfaction of bond investors, companies have recently put an enormous dent in the amount of debt they hold on their balance sheets relative to cash.
