One of the major problems facing hedge funds in Asia is liquidity. Restrictions on stock borrowing in many countries, combined with curbs on short selling and foreign investor quota limits, can make life difficult for hedge fund managers in the region.

Throw in the steady growth of new hedge funds starting up in the Asia-Pacific region; a strong inflow of capital from European and US funds, many of which are reversing an under-allocation into Asia amid strong economic growth and last year’s stock
