EU to impose new rules on CDS market

Europe will unveil measures in the autumn requiring sovereign credit default swaps to be registered, Michel Barnier, the European commissioner for internal market and services, said on May 17, one day before Germany imposed a short-selling ban on sovereign CDS.

“At this stage, I’m not making any accusations, but in October, we intend to deal with this matter very severely,” Barnier told reporters at a press briefing.
