CDS trading defies crisis to register 81% growth

Volumes of credit default swaps traded rose 81% in 2007 to a total notional outstanding of $62.2 trillion, according to recent figures from the International Swaps and Derivatives Association.

Robert Pickel, chief executive of the association, said the results made it more important to "reinforce the operational infrastructure to enable scalable growth and improve liquidity for the continued development of these important risk management tools".

In its 2007 Market Survey, Isda said equity
