CDSs widen on Australian banks, Spanish energy

Five-year senior credit default swap (CDS) spreads referencing Madrid-based Endesa - the largest electric utility company in Spain - widened to 610.2 basis points at 10:30am London time from 542.2bp at the close of trading yesterday. On January 17, local media reported that Italian energy provider Enel planned to purchase a 25% stake in the firm. Spreads on Enel moved out to 652bp from 569bp, according to data from credit information specialist CMA Datavision.
