Top buy-side exec bemoans constraints in debate on use of futures versus spot for cryptocurrency

Asset managers are feeling frustrated by a lack of access to the spot crypto market, with their traditional liquidity providers favouring bitcoin futures, according to a top buy-side executive.

CME Group’s bitcoin futures, which are cash settled and do not require physical holding of the cryptocurrency, have been the predominant route for financial institutions such as Barclays and Goldman Sachs to venture into the burgeoning market.
