New HKEX warrant buyers surf vol whitecaps in unfamiliar waters

While stock volatility is boosting inline warrant turnover, it’s driving bets more suited to wholesale products

More than a year after inline warrants debuted on the Hong Kong Exchange, retail investors are still getting to grips with their profile, say issuers. And some are using them for strategies to which they’re not entirely suited.

Since their launch in July 2019, inline warrants have been popular with investors who use them for short-term bets such as riding volatility and playing sharp rallies or selloffs – trading strategies more suited to traditional warrants or callable bull and bear
