China equity options market launch awaits regulatory approval

Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges ready to start trading single stock and ETF options but need approval from CSRC

The Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges are ready to launch equity options but are waiting for China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) approval before they can start trading, according to senior figures from both bourses.

Speaking on a panel discussion at the China International Derivatives Forum in Shenzhen on December 5, Huang Hongyuan, president of Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE), said the bourse had been looking to launch equity options as early as 2001. As a result he said sufficient
