Many US politicians are looking to use the Enron scandal to score political points or push pet issues through Congress (see box). Some of these initiatives seek to increase government oversight of the listed and over-the-counter derivatives markets. But the legislative calendar is crammed with higher priority issues such as the budget, appropriations bills and campaign finance reform, so the Enron-related measures face an uncertain future.
