High-frequency algorithmic trading (HFAT)

The use of algorithms to make rapid and frequent trading decisions based on price, news and other available parameters, combined with very fact order message connectivity. The definition of the term ‘algorithm’ is itself subject to much discussion and can be very widely drawn to include any decision-making by means of a calculated decision tool, even without automated order entry. However, in common parlance, HFAT would involve the combination of algorithms, automated order entry and routing, and low-latency connections to the exchange execution platform.
