States expected to maintain US cap-and-trade momentum

More than half (57.9%) of respondents to a survey about the future of carbon cap-and-trade in the US said they expected 'a handful' of states would adopt or continue with cap-and-trade schemes if a federal system is not created.

In the survey taken at the Carbon Market Insights, Americas conference in New York this week, a further 29% said regulation of carbon dioxide emissions by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would lead to an expansion of cap-and-trade 'in some way'.
