First US offshore wind farm approved

Sited on federal submerged lands in Nantucket Sound, Massachusetts, the $1 billion Cape Wind project will use 130 turbines to generate a maximum electric output of 468 megawatts. An average anticipated output of 182 megawatts should be enough to power more than 200,000 homes in Massachusetts, according to the Department of the Interior.
