A quick comparison between the mutual funds sections of the Wall Street Journal today versus a couple of years ago reveals a change of tack in the mutual fund industry. Over that time, a host of funds targeting long/short and hedged equity strategies have popped up. It appears that more and more mutual funds are relaxing their long-only constraints. The move has been driven by stagnant stock markets and greater institutional investor interest in non-traditional mutual fund strategies.
