It has proved to be a difficult year for interdealer brokers, with the global economic problems prompting a sharp risk-off attitude in emerging markets, hitting Asian volumes hard. At the same time brokers have had to position themselves for an uncertain regulatory future, not only second-guessing the final requirements for registering as swap execution facilities (Sefs) under the Dodd-Frank Act in the US but also dealing with the fragmented regulatory landscape across Asia.
