Commercial property set to rise

The economic forecast for the commercial property market is clearing, says Standard Life Investments’ investment director Andrew Jackson.

Jackson thinks the recent downturn has affected the commercial property market “very, very sharply” in recent years. He points to a 45% decline in capital values since June and an 8% decrease in rent during the current cycle.

However, Jackson says commercial property is now yielding a record 8%, signalling a brighter outlook for the future.

He says listed property prices on the FTSE indexes are steadily climbing after plunging between June 2007 and February this year.
