Danish hedge fund saga enters new chapter

Denmark has opened hedge funds to retail investors, and the chances of distribution into this marketplace seem a better bet than to a luke-warm institutional community

On 1 July, the Danish government introduced legislation that changed the way that the local hedge fund market operates.

For the first time, retail investors will have direct access to hedge funds, and some of the tax disincentives that were in place have been removed. In addition, a new Act has allowed for the registration of onshore hedge funds. Local managers, such as Carnegie and Scandium, are expecting to launch products before the year end.
