Uncertainty and volatility at end of 2011 heralds more for the year ahead

Volatility and financial turbulence is set to continue into 2012. Hedge funds have a real opportunity to prove their worth and begin the transition to major part of the financial services sector.

As years go, 2011 did not appear at first to be the set of what could easily have been an implausibly plotted Hollywood block buster. The year had it all: sexual scandal unsettling one of the most powerful financial institutions, the continuous drama of the eurozone, political protests and popular uprisings. No doubt there will be a sigh of relief as the year closes.
