Longevity hits pensions

A report from the Continuous Mortality Investigation Bureau (CMIB), an actuarial body that analyses mortality data, suggests that improved longevity among UK pension holders could put the pension deficit issue firmly back on the agenda.

The report, based on the experience of 1999–2002, shows that holders of UK life assurance policies are living longer. Male mortality has improved significantly, says the CMIB. The report also presents more evidence of the fatal impact of smoking.
