Dark clouds descend

Taiwan's financial regulator is moving at breakneck speed to introduce rules aimed at better governing the country's retail structured products business. But its efforts to protect investors have cast a pall on the future of the market. Georgina Lee reports

Bankers in Taiwan have struggled to keep pace with the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC), the country's financial regulator, which has bombarded them with series of potential updates related to the sale of structured products in Taiwan. At one point last month, bankers believed the entire structured products market in Taiwan was destined to be closed for business.
