Investors debate the future of Australian debt markets

Asset owners turned out in force in Sydney on May 5 for the annual Australian Fixed Income Forum. The event featured an array of panel discussions tackling subjects such as macroeconomics, the development of RMBS, covered and corporate bond markets, and liquidity management and regulation. The Australian Financial Forum held at the Marriott Sydney Harbour Circular Quay on May 5 kicked off with panel debate comprising chief economists from Deutsche Bank, Moody’s Analytics, Westpac and Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC).

Moderator Peter Scobie, director of global credit at QIC, pointed out how movements in long-end yields of Australian bond markets are generally affected by global events; while the shorter-end of the market is influenced more by local developments in Australia
