Mastering China volatility lifts HSBC to Hong Kong house award

Unsurprisingly for a bank previously known as the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, the opening in 2014 of the Stock Connect linking the two cities' equity markets was a major boon to HSBC's revenues. The 10% increase in year-on-year, first-half figures for the UK-headquartered bank was driven by Stock Connect flows, which chairman Douglas Flint said "surpass all expectations".

The trading tie is, of course, cash only, but it is indicative of the central role HSBC plays in a market it
