The exit of international money from Asia in May, quickly followed by falls in the value of south and southeast Asian currencies, meant 2013 was a tricky time for banks with a regional focus. However, OCBC navigated itself carefully through difficult waters managing to source dollars and provide hedging solutions for firms impacted by the market volatility. It also managed to use the resulting interest rate rises to drive its structured products business.
